An exciting opportunity has arisen for two experienced board officers to join our team. We provide secretariat support to the Mayor of London’s boards, committees and decision-making processes. Sitting in the wider Committee Services team that also provides secretariat support to the London Assembly, Transport for London and Mayoral Development Corporations, we work with stakeholders including senior officers, mayoral appointees and high-profile external board members.

No two days are the same in this fast-paced and high-pressure environment. The areas we work on are highly topical and often covered by the media. To thrive, you’ll need to be able to work quickly and independently across a range of issues. You’ll understand the big picture at the same time as seeing the small, vital details. You’ll also have excellent communication skills for your interactions with a range of senior stakeholders.

Board Officer – GLA Decisions Fixed term or secondment until September 2022 (maternity leave cover)  

Alongside supporting assigned boards and committees, this role focuses on administering the GLA’s decision-making process. You’ll work to ensure that all non-routine spend is properly detailed, reviewed and cleared through appropriate official and political channels. This role is an excellent opportunity to learn more about the governance and inner workings of a large public-sector organisation.  

Board Officer – Royal Docks Permanent  

In addition to supporting other assigned boards and committees, this role provides secretariat support for the bodies that oversee the Royal Docks Enterprise Zone in East London. This multi-million-pound programme will restore a thriving local economy and vibrant community asset, creating thousands of jobs and developing more than five million square feet of commercial space and homes. The role is an opportunity to work at the heart of the transformation of East London’s unique waterfront – where City Hall is relocating to in late 2021.

We are looking for people who are proactive and committed to quality and transparency. These roles will suit you if you:

  • are highly organised and have strong attention to detail;
  • can prioritise and deliver work in high-pressure situations;
  • have excellent communication skills and the ability to work with and influence a range of stakeholders with tact and diplomacy;
  • have managed formal board and/or committee meetings and can demonstrate your ability to interpret, apply and advise on relevant legislation and governance best practice;
  • understand key policy and political issues affecting London, and the governance structures of London; and
  • have used and applied a range of IT systems, ideally including committee management software.

The Mayor has announced that City Hall will be relocating from More London (London Bridge) to the Crystal Building in the Royal Docks. These roles will be based at The Crystal Building (from January 2022). Further information on the relocation announcement, can be found here.
