We are seeking an accomplished and sharp-minded Software Developer for the high-profile role of leading the planning, organising, and directing of IWF’s Technical Development activities.

The role also has the opportunity to grow into the position of Head of Software and will work closely with the Chief Technical Officer.

Starting salary:  £63,323.00

Who we are

The IWF is the global expert body for tackling child sexual abuse images on the internet, wherever they are hosted in the world. Real children are abused and affected for life when images of their abuse are created and shared online. Eliminating them is our mission.

From our office in Cambridge, UK, we provide citizens in the UK and 42 other countries with a safe place to anonymously report online child sexual abuse. We work through our membership community of international internet companies, in collaboration with 51 hotlines in 45 countries, and together with our law enforcement and government partners globally to fight the problem.

Internet companies are being asked to demonstrate their leadership in creating a safer online world. Those companies who are IWF Members not only fund our work, they also use our valuable services to safeguard their networks; disrupting the sharing, hosting, and sale of images of children being sexually abused. We’re an ambitious organisation, striving to achieve even more as the world leaders in our field.

The job

Reporting to the Chief Technical Officer, you will be responsible for providing all round coding development and supervising a small team of software developers. The team is responsible for building a range of high-profile and innovative software / tools that specifically support the IWF’s mission for tackling child sexual abuse images on the internet.

Examples include:

Intelligrade a powerful new tool that enables our analysts to accurately grade child sexual abuse images and videos, while automatically generating unique hashes (digital fingerprints) which are used to identify and eliminate these images wherever they appear. (Intelligrade featured in wired.com)

Report / Remove Tool - allows young people to discreetly report a nude image or video shared online, to see if it’s possible to get it taken down.

About you

You will have technical leadership, a high degree of attention to detail and excellent communication skills in articulating software development solutions to real life problems. You will be an advocate of agile development, ideally as a full stack developer with expertise in C#, .Net, source control and CI/CD pipelines.

This opportunity will particularly suit someone that wants to apply their growing software development leadership skills, strategic mindset and apply these to building high-profile tools that have a positive impact.

We would love to hear from you if you can:

  • Lead and manage a high performing Software Development team that builds high-profile software and tools (you will also be hands-on with coding)
  • Identify opportunities to use technology to fight Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM)
  • Provide expert technical development advice to other Senior Leaders and colleagues to ensure that IWF maintains pace with current and emerging technology
  • Manage external projects and partnerships where appropriate
  • Ensure all in-house technical development is current, fit for purpose and future-proofed
  • Liaise with key partners including Government and Law Enforcement, including representation on a number of project and strategic committees
  • Be an Ambassador for IWF in promoting the mission and strategy
