Sussex Community Foundation is looking for Trustees and Committee members who want to make a real difference to people and communities in Sussex.
They are one of 46 community foundations in the UK. They raise funds for and make grants to local grassroots charities and community projects across East Sussex, West Sussex and Brighton & Hove.
Sussex Community Foundation are looking for people with compassion and energy to help them grow and target their funds to:
- Ensure that they help local people and communities achieve their aims
- Make a real difference to the lives of people in Sussex by tackling deprivation and disadvantage
- Promote new and innovative ways of developing sustainable community involvement
- Help their team evaluate and assess the impact of their grant giving
- Ensure the right blend of support and challenge to the Chief Executive and the senior management team.
They want the Foundation to benefit from the different lived experiences of people across the whole of Sussexand particularly want to recruit people from different communities. They hope that this might include Black, Asian and minority ethnic and LGBTQ+ communities, young people and those of working age, refugees and people who may have personal experience of challenges e.g. discrimination, disability, mental health issues, economic disadvantage. Sussex Community Foundation aim to keep a balance between male and female trustees so they are particularly looking to recruit women at this stage.
They would like to be joined by up to four individuals who have a good working knowledge of the voluntary sector in Sussex and a combination of sound and independent judgement, strategic vision and the ability to think creatively, who can help ensure that they maintain and improve the quality of their grant-making. They are looking for two people to join as trustees and a further two to strengthen grant making committees.
Much of the income Sussex Community Foundation use for grant giving is raised from endowment funds (now over £20 million). For this reason, they also have a need for an additional trustee who has a working knowledge and experience of investment management and finance.
