Become, the national charity for children in care and young care leavers, are recruiting up to 4 new Trustees to join our friendly, dynamic board. As a Trustee you will have the opportunity to shape the future of our charity and work with other Trustees and the staff team to help us deliver our mission of helping children in care and young care leavers to unleash their potential and to make the care system the best it can be.

This is an important and exciting time to join Become. Since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, we have seen a 75% increase in demand for our services and have been supporting hundreds of young people facing very challenging circumstances. This year we have also launched our new strategy setting out our ambitions for the coming years.

Our board is critical to our success and we are keen to attract people with different skills and backgrounds.

We welcome applicants from a wide range of backgrounds. We especially welcome younger applicants (aged under 35) and applications from people from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities as these are currently underrepresented on our board.

We are aiming for half of our board to be care experienced and so also strongly encourage applications from those who have personal experience of care.

We are very open to applications from first-time Trustees. Full support and induction will be provided, and we would be happy to pair you up with an experienced Trustee buddy to help you get inducted to the board.

Additionally, we are interested in strengthening the board’s skills in campaigning, digital, legal and Equity, Diversity & Inclusion work. We would welcome applicants with experience in these areas (although if you do not have these areas of expertise this should not deter you from applying). This is an unpaid role, but we provide expenses for travel and subsistence.
