Chair - London Youth Games
Do you want to create life-changing opportunities for young Londoners? Do you have a passion for sport? Have you ever considered becoming a Chair?
Well, this is a role for you. London Youth Games (LYG) are currently looking to appoint a new Chair to their Board.
LYG was launched in 1977 to celebrate the Queen’s Silver Jubilee. Since then, they have provided unique, accessible competitive sporting opportunities to over 1.5 million young Londoners.
This summer, LYG positively adapted to the current challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and successfully pivoted to create ‘The Virtual Games’ in which they had over 40,000 entries. Innovation and agility are at the core of LYG, whose vision includes using the Games (virtual or physical) to build the physical health and mental well-being of young Londoners. LYG also want to use the Games to be a driver of social integration for the participants and volunteers.
LYG’s prominence in creating life-changing opportunities for young Londoners was underpinned and validated with the recent 3 year sponsorship agreement with Nike.
LYG has a celebrated alumni, including Dina Asher Smith, David Weir, Raheem Sterling and Mo Farah, and looks forward to the next challenge during these strange and unprecedented times. They work closely in partnership with Sport England, the Greater London Authority, and all London Boroughs to continue to bring the LYG to young Londoners.
So, where do you come in?
As well as holding the belief that sport should be accessible to all young Londoners, you are an individual who excels at partnering key stakeholders and is comfortable being the public face of an organisation.
As well as experienced Trustees/Chairs, LYG encourage first time Chairs to apply as you will have the required support from the very experienced Board, and they will assist you on your development journey where/if necessary.
LYG are looking for the following:
- Someone with a strong personal or family connection to London
- Someone who believes in the power of sport and the life-changing opportunities it can deliver
- An individual who is passionate about social change and integration
- Someone who is capable of being an independent check and challenge, with a willingness to speak openly
